Qualification summary

The Level 1 Award in Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care (RQF) is a vocational qualification providing a basic awareness for learners who want to work in this sector. It is ideal for school leavers who are eligible for employment and pre-apprenticeship programmes, adult returners or those undergoing a career change and who may want to understand more about working in health and social care.

This qualification is only aimed at learners interested in working in adult social care in England. It aims to introduce you to some basic concepts of caring for adults which are essential within this sector including the knowledge around the following areas:

  • the adult social care sector
  • values and principles
  • skills and attitudes
  • communication
  • role of the adult social care worker

This qualification can be used as part of a foundation learning programme and learners can progress into employment within a wide range of health and social care roles, such as:

  • Care assistant
  • Assisted living support worker etc.

On completion you could progress on to the Level 2 Diploma in Care (RQF). You could even undertake the Adult Care Worker Level 2 Apprenticeship.

If you feel you already have an awareness of the sector then you could look at the qualifications above or at more specialised qualifications such as:

  • Level 2 Diploma in Working in Care Services (RQF)

This qualification does not require you to have any prior qualifications or levels of previous learning. There is no minimum age requirement for this qualification.
