Qualification summary

Since the COVID-19 outbreak, infection prevention and control has become significantly more important. No matter where you work or which industry you work in, the risk of spreading infections, especially COVID-19, in the workplace is ever-present. When you also take into account the time, money, and productivity lost to illness and sick days, it is in everybody’s interest that everyone knows the risks, how to stay safe, and keep themselves and everyone around them healthy.

VTCT (Skillsfirst) Level 1 Award in Infection Prevention and Control in the Workplace (RQF) is aimed at those learners who:

  • are employed in a working environment as part of their job role
  • are currently unemployed and applying for jobs within a working environment

The qualification is intended to provide learners with an awareness and knowledge of the:

  • causes and spread of infection in the workplace
  • roles and responsibilities in infection prevention and control in the workplace
  • principles of infection prevention and control in the workplace

and also enable learners to build a broader knowledge base to allow them to work safely together, effectively leading to an improved performance, especially in light of the recent pandemic.

This qualification does not require you to have any prior qualifications or levels of prior learning. For a list of training providers who deliver this qualification in your area please contact our customer services team.

On completion of this qualification, the learner may progress into further learning, employment or onto other Skillsfirst qualifications, such as the:

  • VTCT (Skillsfirst) Level 1 Certificate in Maintaining Personal Well-being at Work (RQF)
  • VTCT (Skillsfirst) Level 1 Certificate in Personal and Social Development (RQF)

or similar vocationally-based qualifications.
