EPA is an assessment of the knowledge, skills and behaviours that an apprentice has learned throughout their apprenticeship.
Assessments have been designed by employers and are conducted by an approved End-point Assessment Organisation (EPAO), such as Skillsfirst Assess. They are graded in almost all instances and enable apprentices to demonstrate occupational competence in their chosen job role.
An apprentice will only receive their apprenticeship certificate after they have passed all of the elements of the EPA.
To understand what the EPA looks like for the standards you are interested in, you will need to read each assessment plan. This information can be found on the Institute for Apprenticeships Standards webpage.
Skillsfirst Assess is an Ofqual approved EPAO for a range of a standards. For more information on the standrds we offer, please select Apprenticeship Standards on the right hand column.
Our transparent EPA fees can be found here.
Skillsfirst Assess – putting the apprentice at the heart of everything we do…
At Skillsfirst Assess, our aim is to offer a service that gives the apprentice the opportunity to achieve their best possible EPA outcome. By working in partnership with employers and providers we have created an EPA solution that delivers the following benefits:
It is always great to hear from learners who have recently completed their EPA with Skillsfirst Assess…
‘Although I was extremely nervous, the experience was fantastic. My Skillsfirst Independent Assessor was reassuring and helpful. Doing it online worked really well and I would be happy to do another one the same way. The speed of results coming back was very impressive as well. Thank you.’
Elizabeth Pyle – Operations Departmental Manager
‘I found the apprenticeship as a whole a journey of progression. At the beginning I was a shy and nervous individual who was struggling, but by the middle of my apprenticeship I felt very confident with communication and was on-top of my assignments. I got a distinction in the end, thanks to my tutor and the encouragement I received from everyone.’
Sana Afsar – Customer Service Practitioner
‘My Independent Assessor was excellent, she made me feel relaxed and really put my mind at rest. She chatted to me first before the actual assessment, which also put me at ease and made me feel more confident. She was, in my opinion, excellent.’
Angela Walsh – Team Leader/Supervisor

"As an established accredited centre and employer/provider of apprenticeships, I have found Skillsfirst to be highly supportive and helpful. Members of my team and I have attended several workshops and support sessions over the years, all of which have been extremely helpful in providing practical advice and support. The support staff are patient and helpful when we had issues with the proctoring process for End-point Assessments.
Recently, the Head of Assessment for Health, Social Care, Early Years, Children and Young People, and the Head of Assessment for Business Sector attended my online team meeting. Both Mark and Yvonne were extremely knowledgeable and explained processes and gave practical advice to my team of assessors, trainers and IQA’s. They understood the pressures facing us an accredited centre and employer/provider, supporting us in identifying realistic and uncomplicated solutions. It was a fantastic opportunity for the team to discuss experiences and challenges in a positive way with experts who have the answers!"
Worcestershire County Council
"The support and guidance from the Skillsfirst team has been invaluable with equipping delivery staff with the knowledge and confidence to prepare for End-point Assessment. The attendance of team meetings, standardisation and training sessions by Skillsfirst staff has helped to develop excellent working relationships and ensure that the delivery of the new apprenticeship standards is in line with the End-point Assessment requirements."
